Kara J. Rutledge's "Jaro and Frog" is a just so story about why giraffes have black tongues. Set in Tanzania, the story begins with Jaro, a particularly tall giraffe who was is named after Mt. Kilimanjaro because of his height.

Jaro's height and tongue combined, make him the only animal who is able to reach and eat the most delicious leaves and berries at the tops of the trees.

After hearing Jaro brag about how the sweet berries are seemingly just for Jaro, a nearby frog thinks of a plan to help taste the berries for himself and also teach Jaro a lesson in kindness.
